Established lockdown 2020
Woodshop 51 is a proper home grown business. I started in April 2020 from my garden shed, with a couple of Ash off-cuts, a jigsaw and a couple of sheets of sand paper. I made two serving boards as gifts for my mother and sister. They loved ‘em and an idea started to take hold….
Being a self employed photographer during a global pandemic sure has an impact on how much you can work! With a newborn baby at home I quickly realised another source of income was required. During lock-down I started to plan, test ideas, sharpen my tools and as soon as restrictions started to lift I searched for local sustainable sources of hardwood from which I could create individual, weird and wonderfully shaped serving and chopping boards that can’t be made in a factory.
I completed A Levels in 3D Design, Product Design & Photography before studying for my Degree in Photography at University. Starting this new business venture has rekindled my love of carpentry and I also enrolled on a College course to secure trade qualifications.
I sell what I make directly through local artisan markets and on-line. I also make pieces to order and I’m always open for special commissions and bulk orders.
Product Range
Every time I make a one off product I aim for it to be completely bespoke and unique. I use the grain patterns, shape and imperfections in the timber I buy to help me determine what its going to be.
Along side the unique items I am also working on a small collection of products that will be avaiable to purchase and order for wholesale.
Each product is then finished with Rubio Monocoat to give it that lasting protection and beautiful finish.
Customised & Branded Orders
I am always open for custom commissions, bulk orders and novelty gifts and welcome any challenge. Using a Laser etching machine I have the ability to personalise your product with a company logo or slogan of your choice.
